Gluten-free Goldfish crackers are coming to stores in November
Pepperidge Farm, maker of Goldfish baked crackers, just announced a gluten-free version of the popular fish-shaped snack, calling it one of the most requested innovations in the brand’s history and inspired by numerous social media requests and even handwritten letters from fans.
“A gluten free Goldfish cheese cracker is one of the most requested products in the brand's history, and we wanted to take the time to get it right,” Tiphanie Maronta, senior vice president, Crackers, with The Campbell’s Company (parent company of Pepperidge Farm), told Bagable.com.
“The taste, texture and playful experience all had to feel like Goldfish, and we’re excited to finally bring our first-ever certified Goldfish Gluten Free cheese cracker to fans,” she said.
Maronta said the brand carefully developed a recipe using gluten-free ingredients, while maintaining the snack’s iconic cheddar flavor that’s made with 100% real cheese, “satisfying crunch, playful fish shape and smile that make Goldfish unique.”
It took time to perfect it, she said. “The result is a Certified Gluten Free cracker that was intentionally designed to meet the needs of consumers seeking gluten-free options without compromising on the taste, quality or fun they expect from Goldfish,” she added.
The gluten-free version of the cracker will be available nationwide beginning in November and is priced at $4.99 (versus under $3 for a standard version of the snack), which Maronta said reflects the costs associated with the ingredients and facilities required for producing Goldfish Gluten Free.
