Labubu mania is in full force and there’s just no escaping it.
The furry plush collectible monster-like toy with a cheeky, toothy smile has ignited a global obsession with kids, adults, celebrities, the fashion world and now supermarket chains.
Popular low-priced grocer Aldi teased its Insta followers on Wednesday with two images of a Labubu dressed head-to-toe in Aldi drip. In one photo, the Labubu sports an Aldi-branded bucket hat, tote, sweats and slides while holding an Aldi play coin.
In the other image, the Labubu wears an Aldi T-shirt, an Aldi baseball cap, jeans and Aldi logo sneakers.
The retailer captioned its post with this message: “20k likes and we’ll make this a reality. 👀 Tell us what ALDI accessories you’d want your monster to sport, and we might just look into making them!”
The post currently has more than 14,000 likes, which means this Aldi-branded drop for Labubus could actually become a reality.
If so, it could be a match made in heaven.
To its superfans, Aldi can do no wrong with whatever it sells — bottled beverages, canned vegetables, fresh produce, bags of snacks, or even toys.
Every Aldi store has a middle aisle called “Aldi Finds,” also dubbed as the “aisle of shame.” It’s stocked with all kinds of unexpected items — candles, clothing, shoes, pet products, lawn decoration, home decor, school supplies and toys. Some have turned into unexpected viral hits, including a sparkly $13 wrap dress that created a TikTok frenzy during the 2022 holiday season.
The Aldi-Labubu drip would turn into another viral moment for the retailer, who told Bagable.com on Thursday that it’s serious about its offer.
"Our fans love their ALDI gear and those little monsters. So, yes, we're serious about dropping some limited-edition ALDI-branded accessories for them. We're watching engagement closely, so keep an eye on our Instagram and Facebook for more updates,” said Bridget Kozlowski, director of communications for Aldi US.
